Frequently Asked Questions
Will My Insurance Cover Alternative Medicine Treatments?
Most insurance does cover chiropractic and physical therapy services. The Leasenby Clinic participates in the Blue Cross/Blue Shield PPO programs. We are also a part of Private Health Care Systems (PHCS) used by many smaller insurance companies. The best way to find out your specific coverage is to call our office at (630) 851-9222. With the information on your insurance card, we can learn more about your benefits for you.
How Soon Can I Get an Appointment to See the Doctor?
If you are having an emergency, in most cases, we will see you the same day you call - as soon as possible. The doctor will come in early or stay late to take care of you as needed. In other cases, we usually make an appointment and have you seen within two days. If you have a life-threatening emergency, you should call 911.
I Have Been Told There is Nothing Else That Can Be Done to Help My Pain. Can Acupuncture Help?
Acupuncture has been used for centuries for pain control. Many times even when conventional methods have not been able to reach the pain, acupuncture helps balance the nerve impulses to give you relief. Dr. Leasenby has experience treating all types of pain. After hearing your history and examining you, he will have a good idea of how acupuncture could work for you.
Are Chiropractic Adjustments Painful?
Under normal circumstances, chiropractic adjustments are painless. In cases of recent trauma, like whiplash, you may have some mild discomfort due to the inflammation. The doctor has training in many chiropractic techniques. Dr. Leasenby prefers to use gentle, effective methods using the least amount of force. We also have special equipment that helps make adjustments painless.
How Old Should a Person be Before They Get Chiropractic Treatment?
Chiropractic patients range in years from birth to old age. Regardless of age, the vertebrae can become misaligned. Even the birth process may cause trauma to the neck and spine. Left uncorrected, the vertebral misalignment may disturb the delicate spinal cord and nerves that control a child’s muscles and organs. In some cases, an uncorrected misalignment may lead to scoliosis, colic, or illness. An early chiropractic checkup may detect many spinal problems while they are still easily correctable.
Does Acupuncture Hurt?
Your comfort is our primary concern. Acupuncture uses tiny needles the size of a one strand of hair. Sometimes you may feel a quick sting like a mosquito, but many times you will not even know the doctor has started the treatment. It does not hurt like the classic hypodermic needles used for giving shots. Many people experience a soothing feeling as the nerve flow begins to balance.
How Do I Know if I Am Taking the Right Vitamins and Herbal Supplements?
It is very difficult for an individual to know what vitamins are right for him or her without a lot of training. Dr. Leasenby constantly studies the latest journals and research to keep up with new information. He suggests you schedule a nutritional appointment and bring in the vitamins, herbs and prescriptive medicines that you are currently taking. After learning your history and doing an exam, the doctor can advise you on your body’s needs. Sometimes blood or urine tests may be ordered. You may bring up your herbal questions at any office visit to get his expert opinion.
How Long Should I Expect it to Take Before I Feel Better?
In our clinic there is usually a significant reduction in symptoms immediately or shortly following the chiropractic adjustment. Your response to chiropractic care depends on numerous factors. Some of these factors include: the amount of time you have had your symptoms, the cause of your symptoms, the number of symptoms, the number of biomechanical dysfunctions you have, the presence of arthritis, your activity, and your history of past injuries.
Once You Begin Chiropractic Care, Do You Have To Continue for the Rest of Your Life?
The truth is most chiropractic patients who seek care from pain relief recover from their symptoms within a short period of time. Chiropractic produces permanent relief without medication in patients who have suffered from chronic pain for years. That's why patients choose to continue periodic check-ups after their symptoms have subsided to ward off other future ailments.
